Rockwills Trustee Berhad is the licensed trust corporation inside the Rockwills group, the dominant retail estate-planning brand in Malaysia. The group was founded in 1995 and is generally credited as the local pioneer of professional, retail will-writing and will custody. In the group's structure, wills and estate-planning products are promoted and sold by Rockwills Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (registration 199301019778) and its franchisees, while the actual trustee and executor role is carried by Rockwills Trustee Berhad, a corporation registered under the Trust Companies Act 1949. The group's sites describe the trustee as a member of the Rockwills International Group and an associate company of Rockwills Corporation. The current group CEO is Azhar Iskandar Hew, who took over after co-founder Saw Leong Aun retired.

Its business is squarely retail estate planning rather than capital-markets trusteeship. Services span executorship and administration of deceased estates, safekeeping of original wills, and a broad catalogue of packaged private trusts: family, insurance, special needs, elder and self-care, buy-sell business-succession, and a pet trust it markets as Malaysia's first. This gives clients a single provider for drafting a will, storing it, and then having a corporate body administer the estate or run the trust, which is the group's main selling point over naming an individual executor.

Scale is impressive on paper but self-reported and inconsistent across the group's own pages. Different Rockwills sites variously claim more than 320,000 wills written, over 200,000 executor and trustee appointments (older pages say around 70,000), roughly 10,000 private trusts set up, and total assets under trust of about RM25 billion to RM27 billion, supported by a network the group states exceeds 6,500 estate planners and shareholders' funds above RM50 million. These numbers are marketing figures; none are drawn from public audited accounts, and the RM billions figure has appeared at different values over time.

Transparency at the entity level is limited. Rockwills does not publish audited financials, and the exact incorporation year and shareholding of Rockwills Trustee Berhad are not cleanly disclosed (group pages state the trustee entity was incorporated in 2006, distinct from the 1995 founding of the will-writing business). The heavy use of franchisees and commissioned agents, plus several similarly named entities, means prospective clients should confirm in writing which legal entity is named as executor or trustee and read the fee schedule before committing. Where firm figures could not be independently verified, they are described here as self-reported.

Services

  • Executorship and administration of deceased estates
  • Will custody (safekeeping of original wills)
  • Private and family trusts
  • Insurance trusts and Life Policy trusts
  • Special Needs trusts and Elder/Self Care trusts
  • Buy-Sell (business succession) trusts
  • Pet trusts (marketed as the first in Malaysia)
  • Corporate trustee services under the Trust Companies Act 1949

Strengths

  • Largest and longest-running retail estate-planning brand in Malaysia, pioneer of professional will-writing locally since 1995
  • Licensed trust corporation under the Trust Companies Act 1949, so it can act as corporate executor and professional trustee, avoiding reliance on individual executors
  • Wide, standardised menu of retail trust products (insurance, special needs, buy-sell, pet, elder care)
  • Very large nationwide agent/franchise network makes access easy across the country
  • Stated shareholders' funds exceeding RM50 million provide some balance-sheet backing

Watch-outs

  • Corporate disclosure is thin: no public audited accounts, and headline scale figures (assets under trust, appointment counts) are self-reported and vary between the group's own websites
  • Structure is opaque: multiple overlapping entities (Rockwills International, Rockwills Corporation, Rockwills Trustee Berhad) and a franchise model can blur who actually holds the trustee obligation
  • Products and advice are distributed through commissioned agents/franchisees, so sales incentives can shape recommendations
  • Focused on retail estate planning; it is not a mainstream player in SC-regulated bond trusteeship or fund trusteeship
