Cotti Coffee Malaysia Review 2026: Cheap Coffee From the Ex-Luckin Founders
Did you know? Cotti Coffee was started by the same two founders who were pushed out of Luckin after its 2020 accounting scandal, and it raced past 10,000 stores worldwide faster than almost any coffee chain in history.

Cotti Coffee is a Chinese coffee chain founded in October 2022 by Lu Zhengyao and Qian Zhiya, the pair who built and then lost Luckin Coffee. It runs on ultra-low pricing, quick-serve kiosks, and one of the fastest franchise rollouts the industry has seen, reportedly passing 18,000 stores across roughly 28 to 33 markets by early 2026. Most of those stores sit in China, where the brand made its name selling coffee at around 9.9 yuan.
In Malaysia the picture is much smaller. Cotti opened its first local outlet on 17 December 2023 at Zenith Lifestyle Centre in Johor Bahru, then added a handful of Klang Valley locations such as Damansara City Mall and Cheras Leisure Mall. For most Malaysians, Cotti works mainly through foodpanda or the Cotti app, since there are only a few physical outlets on the ground. Prices land around RM8 to RM12, which is where the appeal lives.
This review looks at what Cotti actually offers a Malaysian reader in 2026: the real footprint, the menu and prices, how the app referral reward works, and whether it is worth choosing over ZUS Coffee, Luckin, Starbucks or CHAGEE.
The Cotti Coffee story
Cotti Coffee traces directly back to Luckin. Lu Zhengyao (also known as Charles Lu) and Qian Zhiya (Jenny Qian) built Luckin Coffee into a NASDAQ-listed challenger to Starbucks in China, before a 2020 internal audit exposed around 2.2 billion yuan in fabricated sales. Both were removed from their roles in a May 2020 SEC filing. They regrouped and opened the first Cotti Coffee store in Fuzhou, Fujian on 22 October 2022.
The playbook was familiar: heavy discounting, an app-first ordering flow, and franchise partners carrying the store costs while Cotti supplied the brand, supply chain and technology. It worked at remarkable speed. Cotti cleared 6,000 stores within roughly a year, reached its 10,000th store in Doha, Qatar in October 2024, and pushed past 15,000 by mid-2025 and a reported 18,000 by early 2026.
The growth came with strain. Cotti fell well short of an ambitious 50,000-store target for 2025, and Chinese media reported that thousands of signed stores had not actually opened. In March 2026 the company suspended new franchise applications in provincial-capital cities and larger, shifting toward flagship stores and tighter quality control. Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, remains a smaller and more cautious part of the story, with Cotti leaning on delivery platforms and app promotions rather than blanket outlet coverage.

How to get the Cotti Coffee app reward
- 1Open the referral link on your phone, which points you to the Cotti Coffee app or sign-up flow.
- 2Download the Cotti Coffee app and create an account with your Malaysian phone number.
- 3Check the coupons or rewards section in the app, where the new-user and referral vouchers appear after sign-up.
- 4Place an order for pickup or delivery at a Malaysian outlet and apply the voucher at checkout to claim the discounted or free drink.
Cotti Coffee promo codes and deals
Cotti runs its deals through the app and through delivery platforms rather than a single typed code. The referral link rewards new users with app vouchers, and Cotti layers regular price-capped promotions on top. Treat the figures below as typical of what has appeared in 2026; exact voucher values change often.
| Offer | What you get | When |
|---|---|---|
| New-user app vouchers | Sign-up and referral-link vouchers that knock signature drinks down toward the RM5 to RM7 range | After downloading the app via the referral link and creating an account |
| Price-capped drinks | Americano and core drinks offered at a low flat price through the app, in the spirit of Cotti's 9.9 pricing | Rotating app campaigns, check the coupons tab |
| foodpanda / delivery deals | Bundle and percentage-off promotions when ordering Cotti through foodpanda | Ongoing on the delivery platform |
| Birthday and social treats | Birthday reward in the app, plus occasional social-share free-drink campaigns in store | Around your birthday and during posted campaigns |
- Tip: Always order through the app rather than paying at the counter directly, since the counter price is usually the one without any voucher applied.
- Tip: Stack a new-user voucher on your first order to test the drinks at the lowest possible price before deciding if Cotti is worth a repeat visit.
- Tip: Because the Malaysian footprint is small, confirm your nearest outlet is still open in the app before you set out.
Cotti Coffee vs other coffee chains
For a Malaysian reader the honest comparison is about footprint as much as price. Cotti is cheap and interesting, but you will struggle to find one nearby. ZUS, Starbucks, Luckin and CHAGEE all have far more outlets on the ground.
| Feature | Cotti Coffee | ZUS Coffee | Starbucks | Luckin Coffee | CHAGEE |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price range | RM8 to RM12 | RM9 to RM13.50 | RM13 to RM19 | RM10 to RM13 | RM13 to RM18 |
| Outlets MY | Small handful (JB + a few KV) | Around 800 | Around 287 | 100+ | Around 200 |
| Category | Coffee chain | Coffee chain | Coffee chain | Coffee chain | Tea chain |
| App/Loyalty | App vouchers, pre-order | Strong app, points & deals | Starbucks Rewards | App coupons, pre-order | App rewards |
| Best for | Cheap novelty drinks near an outlet | Everyday value, most outlets | Ambience & consistency | Cheap coffee, growing KL reach | Fruit & milk tea |
Outlet counts and prices are approximate and based on 2025 to 2026 figures; chains expand and reprice constantly.
vs ZUS Coffee: ZUS is the default choice for most Malaysians on price and reach. With around 800 outlets you are almost always near one, the app is mature, and pricing overlaps with Cotti. Cotti only wins if one happens to be convenient and you want its coconut or Pampas Blue drinks.
vs Starbucks: Starbucks is far more expensive at RM13 to RM19 and has shrunk to around 287 Malaysian outlets, though it still leads on seating, consistency and brand comfort. Cotti competes on price alone, and only where an outlet exists.
vs Luckin Coffee: Luckin is Cotti's closest rival and shares the same founder history. In Malaysia Luckin has moved faster, passing 100 outlets by mid-2026 with steady KL growth and RM12.99 two-cup promotions. Luckin is currently the easier of the two ex-Luckin brands to actually find.
vs CHAGEE: CHAGEE is a tea specialist rather than a coffee house, with around 200 Malaysian outlets and premium milk teas at RM13 to RM18. If you want coffee, Cotti is cheaper and more relevant. If you want fruit or milk tea, CHAGEE is the stronger and far more available pick.
Who drinks Cotti Coffee?
Budget coffee drinkers
If your main filter is price, Cotti's RM8 to RM12 drinks, sharpened by app vouchers, are among the cheapest branded coffee in Malaysia when an outlet is within reach.
People near a Cotti outlet
Cotti makes sense mostly if you live or work near the Johor Bahru store or one of the Klang Valley outlets. Outside those pockets it is a delivery-only option.
Novelty and flavour seekers
The Pandan Coconut Latte, Pampas Blue series and fruity cold brews are more playful than the standard chain menu, which appeals to drinkers who like trying something different.
Late-night studiers and workers
The Johor Bahru outlet trades until midnight, later than most Malaysian cafes, which suits night owls looking for a caffeine stop.
The Cotti Coffee app and loyalty
Pre-order and pickup
The Cotti Coffee app lets you order ahead, pay, and pick up at a chosen time, so you skip the queue at busier outlets.
Vouchers and coupons
Most of Cotti's real value sits in the app's coupons tab, including new-user and referral vouchers that push signature drinks well below counter price.
Store locator
The app maps nearby outlets, which matters more for Cotti than most chains because the Malaysian network is small and easy to miss.
What to order at Cotti Coffee
1. Pampas Blue Coconut Latte
RM9.90 (16oz), best valueThe signature drink tied to Cotti's Argentina sponsorship. Coconut-forward, smooth and low on bitterness, and the one most reviewers point to first.
2. Pandan Coconut Latte
RM10.90A local-leaning twist that plays pandan against coconut and coffee. A good pick if you want something that feels Malaysian.
3. Americano (via app voucher)
Around RM5 to RM8 with voucher, best valueThe cheapest way to test Cotti's coffee quality. Order it through an app promotion rather than at the counter for the best price.
4. Grapefruit Sparkling Cold Brew
RM9.90A fizzy, citrus-led cold brew for people who find milk drinks too heavy. Refreshing in Malaysian heat.
5. Matcha Jasmine Frappe
RM9.90A blended non-coffee option that leans floral and sweet, useful for sharing an order with a non-coffee drinker.

Tips for the best Cotti Coffee experience
Order through the app, not the counter
Counter prices usually carry no discount. The app coupons tab is where Cotti’s low pricing actually lives, so order there even while standing in the shop.
Use the referral link on your first order
Opening the referral link and signing up gives you new-user vouchers to test the drinks cheaply before committing.
Check the outlet is open first
Because Cotti's Malaysian network is small and still shifting, confirm your nearest store in the app or on foodpanda before travelling.

Final verdict: 3.8/5
Cotti Coffee delivers what it promises on price. RM8 to RM12 drinks, sharpened by app vouchers, make it one of the cheapest branded coffees you can buy in Malaysia, and the signature coconut and Pampas Blue range is genuinely fun. The founders' Luckin pedigree and the sheer global scale mean the coffee itself is competent and consistent.
The catch is availability. In Malaysia this is a small operation, centred on Johor Bahru with a thin scatter of Klang Valley outlets, so for most people it works as a delivery-and-app brand rather than a daily habit. Against ZUS at around 800 outlets and Luckin at 100-plus, Cotti is the harder one to actually reach. Worth trying through the app if one is near you, though check it is open before you plan a trip around it.
